Our Middle School Cardinals competed at the Curtis Williams Invitational and had a strong showing! The girls team took 1st place out of 12 teams, and the boys team placed 6th out of 9 teams. Four girls earned individual medals among 138 runners: Layla Peshlakai (4th), Bailey Nelson (5th), LaNay Sherman (11th), and Alayah Nez (13th). The boys competed among 103 runners. Congratulations to all our Cardinals!

Today we celebrate Saint Katharine Drexel Canonization Day and the lasting legacy of a woman whose faith and commitment to education continue to shape generations. Her legacy lives on in our classrooms, across our campus, and through the students, alumni, faculty, and staff who continue the mission of St. Michael Indian School.
Saint Katharine Drexel founded St. Michael Indian School in 1902 to provide Native American children with educational opportunities. Nearly 125 years later, her vision lives on as our students grow in faith, knowledge, culture, and service.

For our juniors and seniors, the next chapter is getting closer, and the STORY Info Session & College Fair gave them a chance to start exploring what it might hold. In Snowflake, they met representatives from colleges and universities across the country, heard about the admissions process, and learned about building a college list, applying, and financial aid. Each conversation offered a new possibility to consider as our Cardinals begin thinking about life after graduation. We’re proud of them for taking this step, asking questions, and exploring the many paths ahead!

Our 5th graders are learning how light and shadow can bring a drawing to life. For their value still lifes, they’re taking a closer look at the objects in front of them and noticing where the light hits and where darker shades appear.

Join us for Dig Pink, Pink Out game on October 6, 2026, as the Cardinals take on Dishchii’bikoh! Dig Pink brings volleyball teams and their communities together to show support for people affected by breast cancer. Wear pink, cheer loud, and help us fill the stands!
We’ve got a little friendly competition, too. The class with the highest attendance at the game will win a $5 Starbucks gift card for each student.
Homerooms from elementary through high school can dress their teacher in pink for a chance to win a pizza party! The crowd will choose the Best Pink Dressed Homeroom Teacher, so get creative and come ready to cheer!

Something sweet was baking during Friday Learning Labs! 🍪 Students in the Baking Lab rolled up their sleeves and made homemade cookies from start to finish. As they measured ingredients, mixed the dough, and waited for their cookies to bake, the best part was enjoying the delicious results of their hard work!

After careful consideration of the current conditions, we have made the difficult decision to cancel tomorrow’s Cardinal Night Flight Cross-Country Meet. The heavy rainfall and road closures this week have affected our ability to safely prepare for and host the event. Our course has also experienced significant flood damage and is not currently safe or suitable for competition.
The safety of our student-athletes, coaches, families, volunteers, and visiting teams is our highest priority. Unfortunately, because of the timing of the season, the meet cannot be postponed or rescheduled.

Due to campus flooding affecting our elementary grades:
-No school for PK–6th grade
-Grades 7–12 will have school with dismissal at 1:00 PM
-Parent-Teacher Conferences will continue as scheduled from 3:00–7:00 PM

Strong showing by our St. Michael Indian School Middle School Cardinals at the Chuck Hardt Invitational! The girls finished 2nd overall out of 15 teams in a competitive field of 151 runners, while the boys finished 11th out of 14 teams in a field of 159 runners. Congratulations to Layla Peshlakai, who placed 3rd overall, and Bailey Nelson, who placed 7th overall! Both runners earned medals for their outstanding performances. We are proud of all our Cardinals for representing SMIS!

On this Patriot Day, we pause to remember, honor, and pray for the lives lost on September 11, 2001. Thank you to our veterans, active-duty military members, and first responders for your courage, sacrifice, and continued service to our communities and country. Please join us in a prayer: Heavenly Father, On this day of remembrance, we lift up in prayer all those whose lives have been touched by tragedy, violence, and loss. Grant eternal rest to those who have died, and bring comfort, healing, and peace to their families and loved ones. We give thanks for all who are called to serve others—first responders, members of the military, healthcare workers, volunteers, and all who courageously place the needs of others before their own. Protect them in their service, strengthen them in times of difficulty, and guide them with wisdom and compassion. Help us to be instruments of Your peace in our families, our communities, and our world. Teach us to respond to fear with faith, division with unity, and sorrow with hope. Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 9, St. Michael Indian School will be closed so our families can spend time together and enjoy “Ashkii Happy Kids Day” at the fair! We hope everyone has a fun and memorable day celebrating with family and friends.
