Happy Feast Day, Saint Katharine Drexel—pray for us as we continue to carry forth your vision! Today we celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Katharine Drexel, the remarkable foundress of St. Michael Indian School. Through her deep faith and bold generosity, she established mission schools across the United States, devoted especially to serving Native American and African American communities.
SMIS stands as a living testament to Saint Katharine’s enduring legacy and continues her mission of faith, education, and justice. Serving 328 students in preschool through twelfth grade, SMIS proudly maintains a 97% graduation rate. Dual accreditation through WCEA and Cognia reflects the school’s commitment to excellence, accountability, and continuous growth. With 100% local leadership and 32% alumni faculty and staff, SMIS remains deeply rooted in the community it serves.
Grounded in Catholic values and respect for Native heritage, the mission of St. Michael Indian School is to cultivate faith, leadership, and academic success. Students from local Native American communities are empowered with a quality education that prepares them to lead and contribute meaningfully in a culturally diverse world. As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, the school depends on generous supporters who believe in its mission. Visit www.stmichaelindianschool.org to learn how to get involved with this mission that is still alive nearly 125 years later, schedule a campus tour, or make a gift.

St. Michael Indian School held its first-ever March for Life on Sunday, March 1, 2026, marking a significant moment for the school community. Students, staff, families, and local community members gathered at the Window Rock Fairgrounds for praise and prayer. The atmosphere was cheerful from the start, with participants enjoying music from August Remedy and sipping on lemonade from Cardinal Sponsor Shi Main Squeeze. After Bishop James S. Wall addressed the crowd, the walkers began their journey along Highway 264 toward the school. Life Runners and La Luz Women's Center offered resources to attendees and a light dinner was provided at the end of the march at the school. Thank you to the volunteers and community partners who helped a secure safe event for our community. March For Life apparel is available for order.
