Ribbon cutting at the gym dedication

The Nest Gym dedication

A Milestone Years in the Making

On Thursday, May 14, 2026, St. Michael Indian School celebrated a milestone year in the making with the dedication of its new gymnasium, now proudly known as The Nest. The event brought together students, faculty, alumni, community members, and special guests to honor a space that will serve generations of Cardinals for years to come.

The program began with welcoming remarks from Athletic Director Carl Adams, who reflected on the significance of the new facility and the opportunities it will create for student-athletes, students, and the entire school community. Following the welcome, guests gathered outside the gymnasium for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the official opening of The Nest.

The dedication continued with a traditional opening prayer led by Medicine Man Ricky Reeder, assisted by graduating seniors Grant Meyers and Shaa’tohi Henio. Their participation symbolized the connection between St. Michael Indian School’s rich cultural heritage and the bright future represented by the students who will call The Nest home. A Second blessing occurred with Most Reverend James S. Wall, Bishop of the Diocese of Gallup. These blessings honored both the school's heritage and faith-centered mission.

Following the blessing, Board Chair Derrick Terry and school supporters Don and Denise Stablein shared personal reflections about the school's impact on their lives and the role St. Michael Indian School continues to play in shaping future generations. Their stories served as a powerful reminder that the strength of St. Michael extends far beyond its buildings—it is found in the people whose lives have been transformed through education, faith, culture, and community.

More Than a Gymnasium

After the dedication, guests explored the new facility and admired its features. The dedication ceremony was not only a celebration of a new building but also a reflection of what can be accomplished when a community comes together with a shared vision. For everyone who joined in this special occasion, May 14 will be remembered as the day The Nest officially opened its doors and began its story as the new home of our Cardinals.

Currently, the school is matching every donation up to $1 million dollars. Learn more about supporting the capital campaign and The Nest. https://www.stmichaelindianschool.org/page/the-future-of-possibility
